nerdargyle999 asked: hello! I love your work and your blog, you do cool stuff. I run a music themed blog so I'm always curious to know -- what are some of your favorite musicians? what genres do you listen to? do you ever feel inspired to draw cartoon concepts from musical ideas?

Oh boy… I like tons of different artists and styles. I’m all over the place. I’m weird. I’m just gonna type stuff as it comes to me:

Classical. 10s-50s jazz. TV theme songs and showtunes. 60s-now. Beatles. The Kinks. Velvet Underground. Lots of classic rock. David Bowie. Michael Jackson. 70s weird synth stuff like The Residents, Kraftwerk, Devo. Mark Mothersbaugh. Tons of 70/80s stuff… Talking Heads, Oingo Boingo, Debbie Harry / Blondie, the B-52s, Hall & Oates. Madonna. Zappa. Some 90s, Ween, They Might Be Giants. Weird Al. I love Lady Gaga, Björk, Imogen Heap… Magnetic Fields. Neutral Milk Hotel. Other current artists like Deerhoof, Jenny Lewis / Rilo Kiley, Joanna Newsom, Lily Allen. 60s French yé-yé pop like Sylvie Vartan, Francoise Hardy and France Gall. Elvis. The Everly Brothers. Annette Funicello. Tons of Disney music. Old country, Sons of the Pioneers, Hank Williams. Yacht Rock like Michael McDonald, Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan. Comedy band Garfunkle and Oates. I dunno… tons of others- music is great!

Anonymous asked: Hi Nico! What program do you use to put together the animatic?

Final Cut Prooooooo.

michaelcallahan asked: hi, i saw about the wes anderson art show. that looked really cool! i was wondering, when putting together shows like that, have you ever gotten any e-mails from lawyers or anything saying, "hey! dont do that!"? i'm an artist in boston and i want to put together some shows and just wanna know what the general deal with that kind of thing is. appreciate any time you take to answer my question. couldnt find your email so sent this on here. thanks!!!

In the few shows I’ve put on so far, I’ve had no problems regarding permission. But that might be because I’m choosing properties that aren’t entirely corporate. Twin Peaks, Wes Anderson, and Mr. Show, of the galleries I’ve held so far, are not as huge as something like Disney or what have you. It’s artwork from artists, so it’s kind of fair game. So I try to keep it at themes that are sort of on the “small” side, but definitely have a dedicated fan base so as to still have a great turn out at the gallery. I have a feeling that if I ever did a show featuring big symbols like Mickey Mouse or Disney Princesses or something of that magnitude, I’d probably get some kind of cease and desist. Also it might depend on the person. I had a friend that was trying to do a Miyazaki-themed art show, and soon got contacted by Miyazaki’s people wanting it stopped. I guess he wasn’t too keen on the idea of people making art off his work…

What movies would you like to hear Sandra, our guest, and myself do commentaries for on future Animation Inebriation episodes?

halfglovepunch:

Benjamin Anders in the style of…Bob’s Burgers - Rick and Morty - Steven Universe - Adventure Time - Gravity Falls - Ed, Edd and Eddy
I have 2 more in my ask but they will take a little bit of time. Feel free to shoot some more at me and I’ll do them every now and then. These are a fun way to warm up before work!

Ben in my hero! <3

Under the Skin: beautiful, quiet, weird, chilling. A sci-fi that takes its time and lets you actually soak in it’s atmosphere. Definitely feeling Kubrick-level vibes. Take a break from all the “superheroes and explosions” movies out now and go see what a film can really do.
